Many folks in the Network Marketing place their hopes on MLM genealogy lists all too often, only to find that they have completely wasted their money!
They get themselves all geared up to start calling all those 5,000 or whatever prospects and get ready to start living the dream, but then they begin to realise.... No one is taking the bait, no one wants to join their business or buy their products, in fact these so called prospects are pretty angry that you even have their information. It's not working!
What is an mlm genealogy list you may be asking
Well they are basically lists of people who have been previously involved with an MLM company or have in some way expressed an 'interest' in the business model. Sometimes when an MLM company goes out of business they will auction off their list of distributors (complete with full contact details). This of course is open for exploitation by unscrupulous people as personal details are being released here.
The people who buy these lists may sell on the lists or part of them to other 'information harvesting' companies, or they may choose to sell them on to other network marketers. No doubt the buyers will market to the list first themselves before selling on. Just Google the term 'MLM genealogy lists' and you will find plenty of people ready to sell you their lists!
Has any one considered the legal situation regarding such lists, there are data protection rules to consider, when joining an MLM company you will sign a data protection declaration. Never did they sign up to have their details carelessly sold to the highest bidder and then distributed goodness knows where. Assuming your looking to build your business with any form on integrity and morals then you will probably stay away from these lists.
Once you finally get to calling you're so call 'lead' they won't have a clue who you are anyway, obviously they won't have ever asked for information from you personally, so there is no pre-branding whatsoever, also bear in mind that they are probably from a network marketing deal that went under, so chances are that may not be interested in jumping on another deal anyway. Add the fact that by contacting them you are in effect breaking the law, which in itself can carry heavy penalties if you were to get caught. It's not really the ideal prospect, certainly not what you would call a qualified prospect!
Aside from the reasons I've mentioned above there is another reason why I would not attempt to build my business from mlm genealogy leads, can you imagine the pain of sitting on the telephone for 8-10 hours a day? The only alternative is to direct mail which could be pricey, or maybe you can email and become a dreaded spammer. It's also important to remember that it takes a fair bit of skill and patience to close leads on the phone, warm leads can be tough, just imagine what it would be like with angry, frustrated leads that have been contacted and spammed over and over again!
After all there isn't really any need to waste time with these genealogy lists, there are many different ways to generate leads for your business, especially online. I recently did a training video about how to generate mlm leads for free. You are far better off bringing in your own leads that have actually requested information from you.
